The Special 20 is a custom designed, 20 watt amplifier, inspired by brownface tones of the past. This amplifier features a 5879 pentode preamp that is very open and three dimensional. Two 6V6s (fixed biased), a 5AR4, one 12AX7, and one 5879 provide 20 watts of power. Controls include Volume, 5 position FAC switch, and Cut. The FAC control allows the user to select from five different capacitors in the audio path, increasing the bass response of the amplifier. The Cut control allows the user to adjust the high treble range of the amplifier. With single coil pickups, the amplifier excels at chimey cleans, and with humbucking pickups it produces thick and meaty overdriven tones at moderate volume.
